All this is very interesting because it could affect our entire future towards our shopping experience. People could end up just staying indoors in the future doing everything online..including communicating to each other via social networking sites. It does seem strange, “where the employee is able to use the Internet for non-business purposes” – arguably pretty much _any_ internet connection can be used for personal means!

You can have the telephone in your personal name and just claim back the costs of the itemised calls relating to business. If you have an unlimited tariff I believe Section 336 ITEPA 2003 applies.

“No deduction is due for the cost of business calls if the terms on which the telephone is rented require the payment of a fixed sum to cover both line rental and calls. In such a case there is no cost that is wholly and exclusively attributable to the cost of a business call.”

Regarding broadband, Section 336 ITEPA 2003 states “No deduction should be permitted for Broadband Internet access where the employee is able to use the Internet for non-business purposes.”
